The Number of Women Entrepreneurs Increasing in Khatlon Province
BOKHTAR, 11.01.2019. (NIAT Khovar) – Despite the fact that entrepreneurship is a new phenomenon which has been developing after Tajikistan’s independence, it occupies an important place in the economic development of the country.
The contribution of women to the entrepreneurship development is important. In view of this, the government is paying special attention to the role of women in society.
To date, 1,846 women are engaged in private entrepreneurship in the Khatlon province, reports Khovar’s regional correspondent Murod Sotiev.
“In 2018, banks had allocated loans to 30,787 women. The number of women entrepreneurs in the province is increasing yearly,” notes Sotiev.
Last year, entrepreneurs in Khatlon proposed 46 investment projects to the Entrepreneurship Support Fund of Tajikistan. Of these, five projects, including two projects involving women were supported with 10.5 million somoni ($1.1 milliion).
Every year 250,000 somoni ($26,000) is allocated to support 21 grants for women entrepreneurs.
Currently, the Council of Women Entrepreneurs operates under the Office of the Chairman of Khatlon province. The council consists of 41 people.
