Action Plan Signed to Implement the Agreement Between Dushanbe and St. Petersburg

DUSHANBE, 24.05.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – An action plan for the implementation of the agreement between Dushanbe and St. Petersburg for 2022-2026 was signed by the First Deputy Chairman of Dushanbe Jamshed Tabarzoda and the Deputy-Governor of St. Petersburg Oleg Ergashev.

The agreement will contribute to the development of sister city cooperation and strengthening of bilateral relations.

The signing of the agreement took place as part of the cultural and entrepreneurial mission of St. Petersburg to Dushanbe, which began on May 23 and will end on May 26.

Tabarzoda and Ergashev noted that sister city ties and mutually beneficial cooperation between Dushanbe and St. Petersburg have been established at the proper level.

The parties called this meeting a good opportunity to discuss all issues and prospects for cooperation.

The meeting focused on issues of labor migration, political and economic issues, trade between the two cities, education, and healthcare.

More than 1000 representatives of Tajikistan are currently studying in higher educational institutions of St. Petersburg. In order to strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation, a proposal was made for the administration of St. Petersburg to annually allocate 50 quotas for training Dushanbe residents.

On October 6, 1991, after Tajikistan gained independence, St. Petersburg was one of the first to sign an agreement on sister cities relation with Dushanbe.

On April 30, 1999, a new agreement on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation was signed between Dushanbe and St. Petersburg.
