Zavkizoda and Schneider Agree to Attract Grants for the Development of the Regions of Tajikistan

DUSHANBE, 11.08.2022 (NIAT Khovar) – On August 10, the Minister of Economic Development and Trade Zavki Zavkizoda and the Director of the German Development Bank in Central Asia Andreas Schneider came to an agreement on attracting grants for the development of regions, infrastructure and reducing the negative effects of climate change in Tajikistan.
Zavkizoda noted that one of the significant results of cooperation with the bank is the signing of an Additional Agreement on the provision of grants and the implementation of the project for the construction of the Sebzor HPP in the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region in the amount of € 17.4 million. In general, the development partners allocated € 70 million for the Sebzor HPP construction project.
The parties exchanged views on the Tajikistan HPP, which was opened with the direct participation of the President Emomali Rahmon in September 2018 in the Murgob district of GBAO. The German Development Bank allocated € 7.4 million for the reconstruction of the Tajikistan HPP.
Also, in order to improve the situation and reduce the risk of natural disasters in the vicinity of Tajikistan HPP, on October 5, 2021, a second agreement on additional financing in the amount of € 816,000 was signed.
Additionally, the parties exchanged views on expanding cooperation in the implementation of the digital and “green» economy” in Tajikistan.
