More Than 3,000 Jobs to Be Created in Sughd’s Metallurgical, Cement and Mineral Processing Industries by 2029

DUSHANBE, 13.07.2026 (NIAT Khovar) – More than 3,000 permanent jobs will be created in Sughd Province by 2029 through the implementation of new industrial projects by the Joint-Stock Company «Tajik Metallurgical Complex» in Bobojon Ghafurov District and the city of Istaravshan, President of Tajikistan, Leader of the Nation Emomali Rahmon announced during a meeting with regional leaders, public representatives and industrial workers.
The projects include the construction of plants producing lime, bentonite, kaolin and cement, forming part of the country’s broader industrialization strategy and efforts to develop domestic processing industries.
According to the President, a lime production plant with an annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes is being built in Bobojon Ghafurov District to meet the needs of the metallurgical industry.
In addition, a bentonite and kaolin processing facility with an annual production capacity of 160,000 tonnes will be established to supply raw materials for industrial production.
A cement plant with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tonnes is also planned for construction in Istaravshan.
Investment in the lime production facility is estimated at 120 million somoni. More than 150 people will be employed during the construction phase, while over 100 permanent jobs will be created after the plant becomes operational.
Construction of the bentonite and kaolin processing plant will involve around 250 workers, with 120 permanent jobs expected to be created upon its commissioning.
The cement project will attract investments totaling 1.2 billion somoni. More than 1,200 people will be employed during construction, and the facility is expected to provide over 850 permanent jobs once it begins operations.
The projects are expected to strengthen Tajikistan’s industrial base, increase domestic production capacities and contribute to regional economic development and employment growth.
