Tajikistan, Iran Strengthen Economic and Trade Cooperation

In the first half of 2026, bilateral trade between Tajikistan and Iran reached $254.3 million, an increase of $32.8 million, or 14.8%, compared with the same period in 2025.
The figures were highlighted during a meeting between the Tajik-Iranian Joint Commission on Trade, Economic, Technical, Scientific and Cultural Cooperation and First Vice President of Iran Mohammad Reza Arif in Tehran.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, the meeting focused on expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, with particular attention to strengthening ties in the oil and gas sector.
The Tajik delegation also met with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation across a wide range of areas. The sides welcomed the continued expansion of mutually beneficial ties and emphasized the importance of strengthening economic and trade relations, broadening sectoral cooperation and creating favorable conditions for joint projects in areas of mutual interest.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma met with Iranian Minister of Oil Mohsen Paknejad to discuss the supply of Iranian petroleum products to Tajikistan, including diesel fuel and aviation fuel, as well as crude oil. The sides also discussed strengthening cooperation between Tajik and Iranian companies in the oil and gas sector.
The Tajik delegation further met with Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Farzaneh Sadegh. The discussions focused on the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation in transport, logistics and the movement of goods and products.
Particular attention was given to developing efficient transport and logistics arrangements for the import of petroleum products and crude oil from Iran to Tajikistan. The sides reviewed existing transport and logistics opportunities and expressed readiness to work jointly to address outstanding issues and make effective use of available infrastructure.
The Tajik government delegation also held talks with Iranian Minister of Energy Abbas Aliabadi on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
During the meeting, the co-chairs of the Tajik-Iranian Joint Commission reviewed progress in implementing the provisions of the protocol adopted at the Commission’s previous meeting, held in Dushanbe in May 2026.
